加州红酒背景信息
美国加州，是法国国土面积的四分之三。加州的葡萄酒产量占美国的90%，大约有850 家酒庄。加州的葡萄酒产量要比整个澳大利亚总产量高出三分之一。如果把加州当成一个国家，它将是全球第四大葡萄酒产区。
地理气候
加州拥有极其多样的土壤和小气候，因此就可以栽培品类繁多的葡萄。从丝雅拉丘陵（Sierra Foothills）的崎岖山地到中央谷（Central Valley）的坦荡平原，不同的土壤培育出了风味各异的葡萄。
名气
加州的地貌跟法国许多著名的葡萄酒产区相似。纳帕谷（Napa Valley）就跟波尔多产区相去不远，葡萄的品种也差不多：白的有长相思（Sauvignon Blanc），红的则有赤霞珠（Cabernet Sauvignon）、品丽珠（Cabernet Franc）和梅乐（Merlot）。另一方面，索诺玛谷（Sonoma Valley）则接近于勃艮第产区和罗纳河谷（Rhone Valley），出产黑皮诺（Pinot Noir）和霞多丽（Chardonnay）葡萄。
不过，加州可不只是穷人用来替代法国的东西——它还拥有一些本地独有的葡萄品种。举例来说，仙粉黛葡萄（Zinfandel）就是加州的特产，因丝雅拉丘陵的各家酒厂而名声大噪。
规模
加州葡萄酒版图的灵魂是一些每年只酿几千瓶酒的家族小厂。这一方面意味着许多加州葡萄酒都拥有独一无二的味道，另一方面也妨碍了加州葡萄酒进军国际市场的脚步，因为它们的产量太低，只够供应国内市场。
特质
很多时候，你都会听人说起加州葡萄酒的“浓烈”特质。这个词的意思是加州葡萄酒普遍具有浓郁的果香，味道因此就显得更加醇厚。
发展

加州葡萄酒的消费者都比较年轻，通常是二三十岁的品酒新手，他们不太在意品牌，而且乐意尝试新大陆的葡萄酒。当然，许多年纪较大的资深藏家也拥有成窖的加州葡萄酒收藏。
